How to Read a BaZi Chart in 3 Steps

Staring at your chart? Follow these three steps to understand it quickly.

Step 1: Assess Day Master Strength

Start with the Month Branch. It's the most influential position in your chart. If your Day Master is supported by the Month Branch (getting season and root), you're "strong." If not, you're "weak." Strong charts can handle pressure and wealth; weak charts need support.

Step 2: Find Your Favorable Element (Yong Shen)

Your favorable element is what your chart needs most. Strong charts need control (Officer/Killing), expression (Eating/Hurling), or draining (Wealth). Weak charts need support (Seal) or companions (Friends). Once you know your favorable element, you understand your best career direction, lucky colors, and suitable environments.

Step 3: Read the Ten Gods

Which element is strongest in your chart? Officer-heavy people thrive in structured careers. Wealth-heavy people are business-minded. Seal-heavy people are academic. Eating/Hurling-heavy people are creative. The dominant star points to your natural talent area.

Important Note

BaZi is not destiny — it describes tendencies. Two people with identical charts can have very different lives based on upbringing and choices. The chart is a map, not a sentence.
