The Three Character Classic (San Zi Jing), traditionally attributed to Wang Yinglin (Song Dynasty), is a three-character-line primer.
"At birth, humans are good by nature. Natures are similar; habits grow different." This is Mencius' theory of innate goodness.
"Mencius' mother chose her neighborhood. When Mencius wouldn't learn, she cut the cloth on the loom." Environment shapes character.
"To feed but not teach is the father's fault. To teach but not be strict is the teacher's laziness." Both family and school matter.
