Wu Ge (Five Grids) is a Chinese name analysis system based on Kangxi dictionary stroke counts.
Heaven Grid = surname strokes + 1 (for single-character surnames). Person Grid = surname + first given name character. Earth Grid = sum of given name strokes. Outer Grid = Total - Person + 1. Total Grid = sum of all name characters.
Heaven: ancestral influence (minor). Person: core life path (most important). Earth: early years (before 36). Outer: social life. Total: later years (after 36).
Among 81 stroke numbers, generally auspicious: 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 11, 13, 15, 16, 17, 18, 21, 23, 24, 25, 31, 32, 33, 35, 37, 39, 41, 45, 47, 48, 52, 57, 61, 63, 65, 67, 68, 81. Note: 21, 23, 33 are traditionally considered too strong for women's names.
Note: Five Grids is a reference — don't sacrifice sound and meaning for stroke count.
