Chinese Zodiac Guide

Twelve animals, five elements and a 60-year rhythm. Understand your animal sign, how the element cycle changes each year, and what the current Fire Horse year and the coming Fire Goat year mean for you.

The twelve animals

Each sign has its own page — every year of that animal, the personality, how the birth year's element changes it, best matches and the 2026–2027 outlook.

It is the Year of the Fire Horse 🐎 (2026)

2026 is a Fire Horse year (丙午), running from the 17 Feb 2026 Chinese New Year to 5 Feb 2027. The Horse brings speed, freedom and passion; Fire makes the year bright, outspoken and fast-moving — but also hot-tempered and restless. Some signs find their rhythm, others should slow down.

Coming next: the Fire Goat 🐐 (2027)

From 6 Feb 2027 the wheel turns to the Fire Goat (丁未). It is a gentler, more creative and community-minded year after the Horse's dash — a good season to make art, build a home and deepen friendships.

What is my zodiac sign?

The 12 Earthly Branches name each lunar year after an animal — Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. If you were born on or after Chinese New Year (late January / February) of a given year, that animal is your sign; births just before it belong to the previous animal. This is only the year pillar of your chart.

A deeper and more personal reading comes from the full BaZi chart (your day, month and hour pillars too) and the five-element balance inside it. Want yours now?

The 60-year cycle: animals × elements

The zodiac animal alone repeats every 12 years — but 2026 (Fire Horse) and 1966 (also a Fire Horse) are only identical every 60 years. That is because each year pairs one of the ten Heavenly Stems with one of the twelve Earthly Branches. Each stem carries a fixed element and a yin/yang tone, so the full cycle of animal-plus-element repeats once per 60 years. Popular astrologers name the year by the stem's element, which is why 2026 is called a "Fire Horse" rather than a plain Horse year.

Knowing your element matters far more than knowing your animal: two Horses born 12 years apart have different elemental energies, and the balance of elements in your personal chart is what BaZi actually reads.

2028戊 WùEarth (Yang)the Dragon — grand, structural, ambitious

Zodiac vs BaZi: one branch is not enough

Your zodiac animal comes from just one of your eight characters — the Year Branch. Classical BaZi weighs all four pillars. The Day Master (from your day pillar) is treated as "you", and the year, month and hour pillars describe the environment around you. That is why two people born in the same zodiac year can be very different: their other six characters differ, and so do their five-element balances.
